Early life & education

Tom has been in education with Shelo since 2011 he was 9 years of age. He worked hard to progress through primary school, finishing in 2017.

He then attended Bududa Comprehensive and Bulucheke Secondary Schools studying subjects such as History, Physics, Chemistry and English with his highest grades being in Biology and Commerce (business).

Tom lived with his mother and six siblings and has had to travel 7kms to get to school. His family earns a living by growing crops such as cassava, beans and maize.

Tom’s professional education with Path to Prosper

In January 2023, Tom was the first student to start a Bricklaying course through the Path to Prosper programme.

After our local administrator's background visit to Tom’s home, we arranged for him to live in the BLC campus hostel to save him taking the long daily commute and instead focus on his course.
